When you go into a grocery store and you want something do you buy the generic brand or the name brand. Most everyone pays extra for the name brand products. 90% of marketing is in the packaging/advertising. your portfolio is only as good as the weakest image. and how do you place them in your book? the best ones up front and the worst to the back. which one sticks in there mind? the last one they looked at.
What do I put in my book and how many images should I have in there. You need to show that you are very versatile and can be used for many different parts. Have your hair more than one way, your make up from clean to outrageous Show who ever is looking at your book you can carry off the look they are looking for. So have many different looks From Lingerie to evening wear, casual to swimwear and baby doll to OH BABY!!
I hear all the time I have my photographer he is the only one that shoots me. this is not a good thing for many reasons. First it show you only have experience with one photographer or you may be hard to work with. Also not all photographers see you the same way. so they would shoot you differently helping to give you many different looks. and we know this is what we want for our books. Also you book tell a lot about you have it neat with good quality images. if you have tear sheets put them in document protectors don't have them all folded into a note book pocket. spend the money it is all about you.
Do not have images in your book if that is not the type of work you want to do. As soon as you start putting implied nudity or nude images in your portfolio alls anyone want to shoot you is nude.
Keep your book current with your current look, and up to date with current trends. you can do this many ways the best is to find a photographer who's work you really like and hire him to do a shoot with you.
