My interest in photography came from my father. He always had his camera with him and he photographed all our family activities. He bought my first camera when I was about 5 years old. He told me to think about every picture I took. At 5 I was not sure what that meant. I recently met Mark Daughn From Mystique Magazine and he (without knowing) explained it to me. Mark said perfect planning makes perfect pictures.
I went into the Air Force in 1975 and my first assignment was in England. After spending 4 years in England. I was about to leave and realized I didn't have any photographs to show for my time there. I barrowed a camera from a friend and frantically spent about a month taking photo's of everything I wanted to remember about my time in England. I thought I was a big shot shooting with this really nice 35 mm camera. Looking back at the pictures I often wonder why I took it. Brings me back to my fathers lesson.
My next assignment was in New Mexico where I learned all about the Old West. Where I bread & trained horses and did everything I could to learn the Cowboy Way. I never picked up a camera again until about 1995. I think back now about all the photo ops I have missed over the years. Some of the old cowboys, round ups and branding the cattle.
I had a friend and her mother own an action studio in Tucson. she asked us to help out and take the head shots of her group of actors. I really enjoy it and was finally bitten by the photography bug!
I did like many amateur photographers and photographed anyone I could get to sit long enough. I wanted more. So I went on line to AOL and emailed everyone in Tucson that had MODEL in there profile. I sent out 100 emails and got 5 to agree to let me shoot them. I rented a studio for a day and the studio owner gave me a studio light class. I was on my way.
Next I was lucky enough to share a studio with Ed Flores. Ed is and was my favorite photographer. I asked him 1 million questions, Why he didn't run me off I do not know. Now it's 3 years later and Ed and I still share a studio. this is our second studio located in downtown Tucson.
Presently I'm Co-Owner of an on-line Magazine named South Western Glamour, We are working on our second year with the magazine. I'm also the fashion photographer for Xess Magazine. I have also worked for the Johnjay and Rich Radio show. Shooting the Radio Star contest.
I work with a lot of new models and showed them how to get started in modeling. I have enjoyed taking a girl with a dream and help her make it a reality.
I have been a firefighter for 28 yrs. I will retire in a few years and hope to run my photography studio full time. I look forward to my next career.
Feel free to come by the studio and say hi! I hope we get a chance to work together on a project.
I'm currently looking for more commercial clients. I really enjoy shooting fashion and working with clients bringing there ideas to an image.
